Portable Acoustic Range (PAR)

Based on their radiated noise, submarines and surface vessels can be detected by passive sonar systems. DSIT’s Portable Acoustic Range (PAR) offers a portable, simple and cost-effective way to accurately measure, in real-time, the radiated noise of submarines and surface ships. The PAR enables navies and shipyards to monitor and control this noise and silence their ships and submarines.

By continuously tracking the measured vessel and transmitting the data to a measurement ship, the PAR system enables real time radiated noise processing, analysis and display. The PAR includes a comprehensive platform database for management of the measurement results. It also provides playback and post analysis capabilities.

The PAR’s compact design and flexibility enables rapid deployment and retrieval of the system. It saves the maintenance costs involved in operating a fixed acoustic range while allowing its users to obtain highly accurate and reliable measurements of their fleet. The PAR is the cost-effective solution for measuring the radiated noise of any naval platform or other underwater noise source.

  • High Processing Gain: the system is using a vertical array with advanced beam former to achieve high processing gain. This allows the measurement of silenced platforms
  • Simultaneous Processing: multiple processing channels can be analyzed and displayed simultaneously
  • Real-Time Control, Analysis and Display: wireless communication between the hydrophone array and the measurement ship remote control unit allows real time control, analysis and display
  • Accurate Tracking: continuous automatic and accurate tracking of measured vessel, both surface and underwater platforms

  • CPA Calculation and Display: The system’s Array Tracking Unit (ATU) calculates and displays the Closest Point of Access (CPA) of the submarine in relation to the array
