DSIT Solutions wins contract to supply ASW capable sonar system
29 AUGUST 2019
Israeli firm DSIT Solutions has received a contract from an undisclosed navy in Asia to supply anti-submarine Bow Mounted Sonar (BMS) protection system.
The company’s BMS solution is designed for installation on frigates and offshore patrol vessels (OPVs).
The medium frequency sonar system can also be installed in ports and harbours. It is capable of providing anti-submarine warfare (ASW) Solutions.
The latest contract will build on the firm’s existing relationship with the unidentified navy.
DSIT previously provided its Hull Mounted Sonar (HMS) and Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Trainer to the customer.
The sonar systems enable high detection and tracking ranges, as well as reduced maintenance costs.
DSIT Solutions Business Development and Marketing vice-president Hanan Marom said: “Due to their full satisfaction with our HMS systems and ASW Sonar Trainer systems, this leading navy now returns to us to extend its modernisation process.”
“DSIT’s systems are based on sophisticated, breakthrough technologies that excel in performance, reliability, and quality, enabling customers to implement advanced ASW Solutions over many years.
“We are pleased that our customers are fully satisfied with our solutions, and continue upgrading their naval forces with DSIT’s systems, expanding their submarine warfare readiness spectrum.”
The BMS can be employed in support of ASW missions in both littoral and deepwater environments.
Equipped with advanced acoustic signal processing, the system can help detect and track targets in cluttered acoustic environments.
The sonar system has greater coverage and protects the ship against a range of underwater threats, including incoming torpedoes.
DSIT operates as a subsidiary of Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. The company is involved in developing solutions to deal with land, surface and underwater threats.
The company serves energy, defence, and homeland security markets with underwater security, sonar and acoustic-based systems.
In October last year, the firm secured an order from the Dutch Ministry of Defense to provide PointShield Portable Diver Detection Sonar (PDDS) systems.
DSIT also demonstrated its underwater security systems to the US Navy in May 2018.
